About
The Shetland pony is a compact, hardy horse breed that stands roughly hip-high to an average adult human.
Shetland ponies are among the smallest horse breeds in the world, reaching less than half the weight of typical riding horses. Despite their small stature, they are exceptionally strong for their size and historically hauled heavy loads in tight coal mine tunnels. Stallions and mares share similar proportions, rarely exceeding 42 inches in official breed standards while carrying a thick, dense coat that makes them look even stockier.
