About
Pteranodon longiceps was a giant flying reptile as tall as an adult human but remarkably light.
Adult males were notably larger than females and carried much larger bony head crests. Despite its large size and a wingspan exceeding 20 feet (6 m), hollow bones kept its weight low enough for soaring over ancient seas. While smaller than later giant pterosaurs like Quetzalcoatlus, it was among the largest airborne animals of its time.
