About
The plains zebra is the most widespread zebra species, standing about as tall at the shoulder as a riding pony.
It is the most common zebra in Africa and falls in the middle of the zebra family by size, being noticeably smaller than Grevy's zebra. Stallions and mares are very close in size, though adult males are typically slightly heavier. While they share the height of small riding horses, their thick necks and barrel-shaped torsos give them a much stockier build.
