About
The North American beaver is a heavy semi-aquatic rodent that grows to the size of a medium dog.
It is the largest rodent native to North America and the second-largest living rodent in the world, behind only South America's capybara. Adult males and females are roughly the same size, which is unusual for large mammals. A noticeable portion of its overall length comes from its wide, paddle-shaped tail. While its bulky shape makes it slow on land, that heavy build helps it conserve warmth in cold water.
From Wikipedia
The North American beaver is one of two extant beaver species, along with the Eurasian beaver. It is native to North America and has been introduced in South America (Patagonia) and Europe.
