About
The nine-banded armadillo is an armored mammal about the size of a standard house cat.
This species is medium-sized compared to other armadillos, falling far below the massive giant armadillo but dwarfing the five-inch pink fairy armadillo. Males are typically slightly heavier than females, though both share the same low, compact profile. A surprising portion of its total length comes from its rigid, tapered tail, which makes up more than a third of its full body length.
