About
Muscle tissue is the dense, contracting soft tissue in animals that weighs slightly more than an equal volume of water.
Muscle tissue has a density of about 0.61 ounces per cubic inch (1.06 g/mL), making it moderately denser than water. Because of this compact structure, one pound (454 g) of muscle takes up only about 1.8 US cups (428 mL) of space. This is notably more compact than body fat, which requires about 18 percent more volume for the same mass. Its tightly bundled protein fibers and high water content account for most of this weight.
From Wikipedia
Muscle is a specialised soft tissue, one of the four basic types of animal tissues. There are three types of muscle tissues in vertebrates: skeletal muscle tissue, cardiac muscle tissue, and smooth muscle tissue.
