A kind of butterfly · also called milkweed butterfly, wanderer, black veined brown

About
The monarch is an orange-and-black milkweed butterfly with a wingspan stretching nearly four inches across.
Monarch wingspans typically range from 3.5 to 4.0 inches (8.9 to 10.2 cm), which makes them distinctly larger than lookalike species such as the viceroy butterfly. Female monarchs generally have slightly smaller wings than males, although females possess thicker dark wing veins. Despite weighing a fraction of an ounce, their broad wing area is large enough to carry them across thousands of miles during seasonal migrations.
