About
The long-tailed chinchilla is a small South American rodent about the length of a standard ruler.
This species is leaner and lighter than the short-tailed chinchilla, though its tail makes up a larger portion of its total length. Unlike many other mammals, female chinchillas are usually slightly larger and heavier than males. Much of their rounded appearance comes from extremely dense fur, which makes them look thicker than their lightweight bodies actually are.
From Wikipedia
The long-tailed chinchilla, also called the Chilean, coastal, common, or lesser chinchilla, is one of two species of rodent from the genus Chinchilla: the other species being C. chinchilla. Both species are endangered in the wild after historically being hunted for their soft hair coats.
