About
The green sea turtle is a massive marine reptile that grows over three feet long.
Among hard-shelled sea turtles, the green sea turtle is the largest living species, surpassed in total turtle size only by the leatherback. Fully grown adults commonly range from 3 to 4 feet (0.9 to 1.2 m) in shell length and weigh between 250 and 400 pounds (110 to 180 kg). Males and females grow to similar body sizes, though mature males possess longer tails. Despite their substantial bulk, these large reptiles sustain their weight entirely on seagrass and algae once mature.
