About
The emperor penguin is the largest living penguin species, standing nearly four feet tall on the Antarctic ice.
It is the tallest and heaviest penguin on Earth, easily dwarfing smaller relatives like the gentoo or chinstrap penguins. Males and females are very similar in size and appearance, typically ranging between 49 and 99 pounds (22 to 45 kilograms) depending on the season. Males can lose a large fraction of their body mass during the winter while fasting to keep their single egg warm.
