About
The domestic guinea pig is a stout, tail-free rodent roughly the size of a standard loaf of bread.
Adult guinea pigs usually span 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 cm) in length and weigh between 1.5 and 2.6 pounds (700 and 1,200 g), with males typically being slightly heavier than females. They are considerably bulkier than pet hamsters or gerbils, yet tiny compared to their giant wild cavy relative, the capybara. Because they lack an external tail, their entire body mass is concentrated into a compact, rounded frame.
