About
The domestic donkey is a sturdy working equine roughly the weight of four adult humans.
Donkeys are generally stockier and shorter than horses, with larger ears that help them disperse heat. Their size varies dramatically by breed, ranging from miniature donkeys under 3 feet (0.9 m) tall to mammoth jacks that exceed 5 feet (1.5 m) at the withers. Males, called jacks, often grow slightly larger and heavier than females, known as jennies. Despite their smaller stature compared to horses, their dense bone structure allows them to carry substantial working loads.
