About
The California newt is a small, toxic amphibian that grows to about the length of a dollar bill.
Adult California newts generally range from 5 to 8 inches (13 to 20 cm) in total length, placing them in the middle size range for North American salamanders. Males and females share similar lengths, but males temporarily develop flatter tails and smoother skin during the breeding season. Despite weighing only half an ounce (0.015 kg), its tiny body contains enough tetrodotoxin to sicken or kill animals many times its size.

A California newt is about 6 inches (0.15 m) long, 0.8 inches (0.02 m) tall, and weighs roughly 0.5 ounces (0.015 kg). That makes it roughly the length of a ballpoint pen and about as heavy as three nickels.
