A kind of cockroach · also called palmetto bug, waterbug
About
The American cockroach is the largest common household roach, reaching about the length of a house key.
It is substantially larger than other indoor pests like the German cockroach, which is usually less than half its length. Adult males and females reach similar body lengths, but males have slightly longer wings that extend past the abdomen. Despite growing to over an inch and a half, its flat body allows it to slip through gaps narrower than a pencil.
From Wikipedia
The American cockroach is the largest species of cockroach routinely found in homes, and often considered a pest. In certain regions of the U.S. it is colloquially known as the waterbug, though it is not a true waterbug since it is not aquatic, nor a Hemipteran.
