About
The African cheetah is a slender, lightweight wild cat built for fast running across open grassland.
The name covers the various cheetah subspecies native to Africa, including those in the southern, eastern, and northwestern regions. Compared to heavier big cats like leopards, cheetahs have much lighter bones and lean frames adapted for acceleration rather than power. Males are generally slightly larger than females, but both sexes share the same slender proportions. Even though a cheetah can stand waist-high on a person, its narrow body carries surprisingly little bulk.
